This article is based on the need to conduct a study on the contents of the inventory and appraisal as distribution operation of the state in Cuba, because of the complexities of the institute, which are manifested not only at the theoretical and doctrinal level, but also in the legal configuration of the Cuban legislature. In this sense, from a doctrinal study on the subject it provides a diagnosis of major shortcomings in the substantive scope affecting the practice of inventory and appraisal of the estate in Cuba, and thus the determination of possible guidelines that allow the improvement of the legal regime of the institution under review.El presente artículo parte de la necesidad de realizar un estudio sobre el contenido del inventario y avalúo como operación particional del caudal hereditario en Cuba, a raíz de las complejidades propias del instituto, las que no solo se manifiestan en el ámbito teórico doctrinal sino también en la configuración legal que del mismo hiciera el legislador cubano. En este sentido se aporta, a partir de una exposición doctrinal sobre el tema, un diagnóstico de las principales insuficiencias que en el ámbito sustantivo inciden en la deficitaria práctica de la determinación y valuación de los bienes hereditarios, y con ello el establecimiento de las posibles pautas que permitan perfeccionar el régimen jurídico de la institución objeto de análisis.
