This essay tries to explain some of the connections and some of the differences between cultureand ideology, with the intention of integrating them to the construction of a critical theory in order tobuild the Latin America of the 21th Century. The main obstacles are the founding myths that cover overthe left and the right political wings. Identifying these myths is an important step, but yet insufficient forthe construction of the space of politics as a new democratizating relation and the origin of the decisionsfrom below and with a counter-hegomonical character.En este trabajo se busca explicar algunas conexiones y distancias entre la cultura y la ideología,con el fin de integrarlos a la construcción de elementos de una teoría crítica en construcción en laAmérica Latina del siglo XXI. Son mitos fundantes el principal obstáculo por sobre la tradición de lasizquierdas y las derechas. Identificarlos es un paso importante pero insuficiente para la construcción delespacio de lo político como nueva relación democratizadora y de origen de las decisiones del poder desdeabajo y con carácter contrahegemónico.
