The growing economic integration, the opening of markets, the increase in tourism, electronic commerce, among other factors, affect the internationalization of consumer relations and the need to establish a balance between consumer protection and economic integration of the markets. If we look at the years that have passed with a critical sense, we can see that the initiatives developed to guarantee a minimum level of consumer rights protection in MERCOSUR, are tasks that drag on for an indefinite time, whose lack or deficiency constitutes, correlatively, one of the greatest obstacles to the integrationist effort of the Treaty of Asunción.La creciente integración económica, la apertura de los mercados, el incremento del turismo, el comercio electrónico, entre otros factores, inciden en la internacionalización de las relaciones de consumo y en la necesidad de establecer un equilbrio entre la protección del consumidor y la integración económica de los mercados. Si observamos los años transcurridos con un sentido crítico podemos ver que las iniciativas desarrolladas para garantizar un nivel mínimo de protección a los derechos del consumidor en el MERCOSUR, son tareas que se arrastran por tiempo indefinido, cuya carencia o deficiencia constituyen, correlativamente, uno de los mayores obstáculos al esfuerzo integracionista del Tratado de Asunción.
