The present work seeks to trace the utilization of the concept of State in the political modern science, especially, the North American’s of the 20th century. Likewise, there will be analysed some of the discussions that in the years ' 80 were given around the reappearance of the term.El presente trabajo busca rastrear la utilización del concepto de Estado en la ciencia política moderna, en especial, la norteamericana de mediados de siglo XX. Asimismo, se analizarán algunos de los debates que en los años ´80 se dieron en torno al resurgimiento del término.
