| Description | APUNTES SOBRE LOS ORÍGENES CONSTITUCIONALES DEL TERRITORIO DE QUINTANA ROO Manuel FERRER MUÑOZ This essay is the result of the research done by the author as an expert appointed by the government of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, in the context of the constitutional controversy that involves the states of Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, that is being heard by the Supre-me Court of Justice. The article explores the factors that eventually led to the formation of the territory of Quintana Roo, identifying two that have to do with the historical develop-ment of the pensinsula of Yucatan: the "war among the castes" that started in 1847, and the creation of the state of Campeche in 1858. Both the difficulty to determine the limits of the state of Campeche and the jurisdiction problems concerning the "pacific indians", established on an area whose control was disputed by the local authorities of Campeche and Mérida, conditioned the definition of the border lines of the territory of Quintana Roo, formed in 1902, in order to facilitate the presen-ce of the federal government in the furthest edge of the peninsula of Yucatan, where rebelious Mayans continued to fight. | en-US |
| Description | APUNTES SOBRE LOS ORÍGENES CONSTITUCIONALES DEL TERRITORIO DE QUINTANA ROO Manuel FERRER MUÑOZ Este trabajo es resultado de una investigación llevada a cabo por el autor en su calidad de perito historiador designado por el Gobierno de Quintana Roo, en el contencioso constitucional entre Campeche, Yucatán y Quintana Roo ante la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación. La indagación sobre los factores que condujeron en último término a la formación del territorio de Quintana Roo conecta necesariamente con dos acontecimientos centrales para la península yucateca durante el siglo XIX: la guerra de castas que estalló en 1847 y el nacimiento del estado de Campeche en 1858. La difícil determinación de los límites del estado de Campeche y los problemas de jurisdicción sobre los "indios pacíficos", asentados en un espacio sobre el que querían ejercer algún tipo de control tanto las autoridades de Campeche como las de Mérida, condicionaron la polémica fijación de las líneas fronterizas del territorio de Quintana Roo, erigido en 1902 con la finalidad de facilitar la presencia federal en el último rincón de la península de Yucatán donde los mayas rebeldes persistían en empuñar las armas., | es-ES |
