DescriptionMy intention in this paper is to dismantle the common reading of William Godwin´s Political Theory which says that he belongs to the Anglo-Saxon Utilitarian Tradition. In the first place, and for that purpose, it´s showed how The Principle of Utility (as it was conceived by Jeremy Bentham) is strongly tied to The Authority Principle. Then, it´s exposed why both principles are irreconcilable with idea of Individual Autonomy understood radically, as Godwin did. Lastly, it´s pointed out how those principles are incompatible with the Non-Instrumental Rationality assumed in the Godwin´s Political Theory. In consequence, it would be more adequate to locate Godwin in the revolutionary and rousseaunian Political Thought Traditionen-US
Description: El presente trabajo intenta rebatir la lectura frecuente que se hace de la Teoría Política de William Godwin, la cual lo señala como perteneciente a la tradición del Utilitarismo Anglosajón. En primer lugar, y con aquel propósito se muestra cómo el Principio de Utilidad tal como fuera pensado por Jeremy Bentham está fuertemente imbricado con el Principio de Autoridad. Luego, se expone cómo ambos principios son irreconciliables con la idea Autonomía Individual, si ésta es entendida en términos radicales, tal como lo hiciera el propio Godwin. Por último, se señala cómo son incompatibles con la Racionalidad No instrumental presupuesta en la Teoría Política godwiniana. En consecuencia, resultará más acertado situar a Godwin en la tradición del pensamiento político de corte revolucionario-rousseauniano.es-ES
