The promulgation of the Constitution of Cádiz was a turning point in the history of constitutionalism, which had its inception under the Atlantic Revolutions. This article aims to praise the Spanish Constitution of 1812 —which gave rise to the principle of National Sovereignty— through the analysis of its importance for the universal constitutionalism, especially in Brazil and Portugal. It pays special attention to the historical context which modeled that document and to the study of some of the devices that stand out due to their peculiarity.La promulgación de la Constitución de Cádiz representa un momento crucial en la historia del constitucionalismo, que tuvo sus inicios con las Revoluciones Atlánticas. Este artículo pretende rendir un tributo a la Constitución Española de 1812 —que dio origen al principio de soberanía nacional—, a través del análisis de su importancia para el constitucionalismo universal, especialmente el brasileño y el portugués. Dedica especial atención al contexto histórico que modeló aquél documento y al examen de algunos de los dispositivos que se destacan por su peculiaridad.
