Emotional support animals is a newly market category that refers to the relationship between a human and a nonhuman animal that provides therapeutic benefits of affection and companionship. There is an increasing amount of people who claim to require the emotional support of a nonhuman animal in the development of their daily lives. While this is an emerging theme that requires in-depth studies to define the scope of this interrelation between humans and nonhuman animals, it is important to continue to widen legal perspectives for its regulation under two premises: avoiding any discrimination exercised against people who require the emotional support of an animal and, on the other hand, regulating the work or support afforded by emotional support nonhuman animals to avoid abuse, exploitation or mistratment. One of the first legal approches to the issue could be to assimilate the emotional support activities with the tasks undertaken by disability support animals, so as to expand on this legal category.               Los animales de soporte emocional es una categoría de reciente cuño que hace referencia a la relación entre un humano y el animal no humano que provee beneficios terapéuticos del afecto y el compañerismo. Hay un creciente número de personas que alegan requerir del apoyo emocional de un animal no humano en el desarrollo de su vida cotidiana. Si bien, este es un tema emergente que requiere estudios profundos que permitan delimitar los alcances de esta interrelación entre humanos y no humanos, es importante ir abriendo perspectivas jurídicas para su regulación bajo dos premisas: evitar cualquier ejercicio de discriminación contra las personas que requieran el apoyo emocional de un animal y, por otro lado, regular el trabajo o apoyo que brindan los no humanos de soporte emocional para evitar abusos, explotación o maltrato.  Una de las primeras aproximaciones jurídicas al tema podría ser asimilar las actividades de soporte emocional con las tareas que desarrollan los animales de asistencia para discapacitados, para así, ampliar esta categoría jurídica.
