One of the main goals of the social welfare program promoted by Peronism was that the scope of the educational and sanitary service covered a largeportion of the territory, was expanded, and reached remote locations «left behind» in the country. Based on a focused empirical survey carried out in a hardly socio-economically developed department, as was Lavalle, located in the north of the Province of Mendoza, it is investigated whether these social services were actually expanded, and the consequent effects on the educational and sanitary level of the population.Una de las metas principales del programa de bienestar social propulsado por el peronismo fue que el servicio educativo y sanitario tuviera gran alcance territorial, se expandiera horizontalmente y llegara hasta las zonas alejadas y atrasadas del país. A partir de un estudio empírico focalizado en un departamento de escaso desarrollo socioeconómico, como fue Lavalle, ubicado al norte de la provincia de Mendoza, se investiga si estos servicios sociales llegaron realmente a expandirse y cuáles fueron los efectos sobre el nivel educativo y sanitario de la población.
