A study is presented about the oppositions to professorships of Roman Law held in Madrid in 1943 and in which, in two areas, three candidates appeared: Francisco Hernández Tejero, Faustino Gutiérrez Alviz y Álvaro d'Ors. The inedit originals of the written 5th and 6th exercises of the opposition are edited, the latter in two sections. Sixty five years later, with a perspective vision, and 8 of the lawyers involved in said opposition having died, the contribution to the study of Roman Law and the international reknownment of Álvaro d'Ors is stated as superior to the other two rivals and to the group of 5 members that were judges of this Court, in part because of the specialisation and publications o various of them in subjects different to Roman Law, as Procedural Law, Germanic Law, Spanish High Middle Ages Law, Civil Law and Canonic Law. 1943 oppositions were the christening of an original and brilliant Romanist. The study is based on the inedit minutes of said opposition that are kept in the General Archive of the Spanish State Administration.  Se presenta un estudio sobre las oposiciones a las cátedras de Derecho Romano celebradas en Madrid en 1943 y en las que para dos plazas concurrieron tres candidatos: Francisco Hernández Tejero, Faustino Gutiérrez Alviz y Álvaro d'Ors. Se editan los originales inéditos de los ejercicios escritos 5º y 6º de la oposición, este último con dos partes. Transcurridos sesenta y cinco años desde entonces, con visión de perspectiva, y habiendo fallecido ya los ocho juristas implicados en aquella oposición, la contribución al estudio del Derecho romano y la proyección internacional de Álvaro d'Ors se constata como superior a la de sus dos contrincantes y al conjunto de los cinco miembros que fueron jueces de este tribunal, en parte por la especialización y publicaciones de varios de ellos en materias ajenas al Derecho romano, como el Derecho procesal, el Derecho germánico, el Derecho altomedieval español, el Derecho civil y el Derecho canónico. Las oposiciones de 1943 fueron el bautismo de un romanista original y genial. El estudio se construye a partir de las actas inéditas de dicha oposición conservadas en el Archivo General de la Administración, del Estado español.
