This paper is about the manus and tries to determine if it has a facultative content analogous to patria potestas or not. It starts trying to clarify the relation that exists between manus and marriage. For this, we develop the different ways the woman has to enter into the manus of the husband. Then we study the historical cases in the archaic age of marriages where the woman has not entered into the manus of the husband. Following, we enter into the relation between manus and patria potestas, comparing the content of both institutions. The powers of the husband and the historical cases available where the husband had sanctioned the woman are studied, especially in ius necandi, ius vendendi and ius in noxa dandi.El presente trabajo trata de la manus e intenta determinar si tiene un contenido potestativo análogo a la patria potestas o no. Comienza intentando aclarar la relación que existe entre manus y matrimonio. Para ello, estudia las diferentes maneras que tiene la mujer para entrar en la manus del marido. Luego estudia los casos históricos de matrimonios en que la mujer no ha entrado en la manus del marido en la etapa Arcaica. A continuación entra en la relación entre manus y patria potestas, comparando el contenido de ambas instituciones. Se estudian los poderes del marido y los casos históricos de que disponemos en que el marido haya aplicado sanciones a la mujer, específicamente en ius necandi, ius vendendi y ius in noxa dandi.
