This paper analyzes the lawyer's profession through a sociological approach and different researches that have been carried out on the subject. In this way, the author addresses issues related to the description, organization and division of the profession, morale, the professional income of lawyers, the economic power of clients, the position within the profession, among other aspects. However, the article concludes by pointing out that lawyers have a role of social control, through which they can redirect, or not, the expectations of clients and the social interest in accordance with the law.El presente trabajo analiza la profesión del abogado a través de un enfoque sociológico y a partir de distintas investigaciones que se realizaron al respecto. De esta manera, el autor aborda temas relacionados a la descripción, organización y división de la profesión, la moral, los ingresos profesionales de los abogados, el poder económico de los clientes, la posición dentro de la profesión, entre otros aspectos. Sin perjuicio de lo mencionado, el artículo concluye señalando que los abogados tienen un rol de control social, mediante el cual podrán reconducir, o no, las expectativas de los clientes y el interés social de acuerdo al Derecho.
